Our History |
In 2009 NHPS approved a new, nationally recognized, teacher contract. The 2009 NHFT contract opened the door to improved evaluation, creating TEVAL. The 2009 NHFT contract also made it possible to turn around schools strategically. Additionally, the NHFT contract opened the door for teachers to work beyond contractual hours in turnaround schools. In the same year, NHPS also gave direction to develop a structure around leadership development. All of the work done in 2009 up until 2012 set the foundation for New Haven to be awarded the Teacher Incentive Fund Grant.
New Haven Public Schools was awarded the Teacher Incentive Fund Grant totaling just over $53 million dollars (over a five-year period) in 2012. The Teacher Incentive Fund Grant (TIF) began to pay for critical elements outlined in the 2009 NHFT contract. This then set the stage for future performance based compensation, expanded roles for teachers and administrators (beyond the those in turnaround schools), administrative interns within a structure for leadership development and the Talent Council. In 2014-15, the Talent Office was established. The Talent Office is now helping to guide and improve the work that has been started and implemented since 2009 as well as refocus the work of the previous Office of Staff Development. |
